Students at John Port were invited to participate in the Christmas Tree Event at St Helens Church in Etwall. Originally it was planned as an indoor event, but was then changed to outdoors due to the COVID pandemic. Along with other members of the community, we were asked to provide a tree to bring light into the village at the end of such a challenging year.
The lower school (Years 7-9) created decorations made of clay that were based on the theme of ‘Covid Christmas’. The decorations included rainbows to represent the hard work done by key workers and those in the NHS during 2020. Huge thanks goes to everyone who continues to work so hard during such challenging times. Unfortunately, the tree did not stand up to the weight of the decorations or the windy conditions on Friday, so therefore it has been redesigned as a wreath!
The Sixth Form students at John Port (Years 12 & 13) work hard to support local and national charities that are making a difference to young people and the city of Derby. The decorations on the Sixth Form tree represent the charities and good causes supported by the students at John Port.
We wish everyone in the local community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
