The students were fantastic ambassadors at our 6th form open evening on Wednesday this week, discussing the subjects they are currently studying. It was great to see such a large number of young people considering a future in our sixth form. These were existing students and from other local schools. We have over 30 Level 3 courses on offer at John Port next year and the list and application form are available on the website for all students.
Our prefects in Year 11 were very busy yesterday raising money for Young Minds for World Mental Health Day. This is an area which unfortunately affects a large number of young people in the UK and it is important to look for strategies to help our young people cope with the pressures they now face.
Our catering offer is currently being updated and the menu and food on offer is on our website for parents and students to see in advance. The caterers are working with the school council to look at the menu and offer food that is healthy and also appetising for our young people. I would encourage students to discuss this with members of the school council to help provide the most suitable menu for all.
Our School council have done a wonderful job interviewing candidates for various positions in the Academy this week. The candidates all found the student interview the most challenging, but also the most enjoyable part of the interview process. I would also like to add a special thanks to Molly Burrows and Tom Turley our Head girl and Head boy, who have been a huge support to the Academy during the interviews and also for the 6th Form open evening where they both presented incredibly well to a very large audience.
