Principal’s Blog – 7th September 2018

I would like to welcome all of our students, new and old, to John Port Spencer Academy this September.

It was wonderful to see the smart new uniform and manic enthusiasm from the Year 7 students on Wednesday. I have to admit they were looking a little tired by Friday night in the bus queues!

We had an amazing summer of outstanding examination results and the staff and students have returned full of enthusiasm.

The Year 13 students were absolutely delighted with their results and the hall was buzzing. The students have secured places in many of the top universities and on higher apprenticeship programmes.

  • 54.1% of grades achieved were A* – B    (compared to 48% in 2017)
  • 27% of grades achieved were A* – A        (compared to 22.7% in 2017)
  • 99.1% of grades achieved were A* – E   (compared to 98.8% in 2017)

Among many of the successful students are Niamh Garrett and Lucy Stokes who have both secured places to read medicine and the following students who also achieved all A*/A grades: Flora Cornall, Megan Deakin, Samuel Evans, Ben Lewis, Emily Locker, Ezri McGarrigle, and Daniel Perry.

The Year 11 students really showed their commitment when they achieved the best examination results in John Port School history. I have compared this year’s results to last year’s, to show the improvement over the last 12 months. We are delighted that the results are all above the National Average, showing progress in all subject areas. 61% statistics students, 42% of Spanish students and 41% of Biology students achieved grades 7-9 which is equivalent to the old A-A*.

There were many  outstanding individual achievements including Charlotte Beckett, James Bishop,  Harry Barker , Abby Miller, Sarah Hendriksen, Maddie Harris and James Dyson who all achieved 9 A* /A (7/9) grades.

The bar has now been set for our new Year 11 students!

We have our Year 5/6 open evening on September 19th and our 6th form open evening on October 10th. Everyone is welcome to have a look around the departments and meet the staff during these events.
