I don’t like to start my blog with a grumble, however we have a number of students who are trying to come to school with facial and tongue piercings. These piercings are not acceptable and students will not access normal lessons if they are worn. There will be no discussions, these piercings are simply banned and always have been. I thank you for your support on this matter.
We had a really busy open evening last week when Year 5 and 6 students visited the site. The students were escorted around by some incredibly helpful Year 8 students and had a hands on experience in many departments. The feedback was fantastic from the evening and I look forward to visiting the students in their primary schools later this year.
Wednesday 26th September was the European Day of languages. Throughout the week students have been encouraged to use a variety of languages to answer the register! On Wednesday the students competed in a languages bake off with some very impressive cakes.
Students really enjoy their food lessons at John Port and during Year 7 and 8 the focus is on healthy eating. The year 9 students were very excited to be looking at high energy food this week as it enabled them to make cakes!
I would like to congratulate Mr Lundie’s Year 7 group who grew the most amazing Copper Sulphate crystals this week. They were very excited to show me the huge crystals they had grown when I visited their lesson on Wednesday. I have to admit, in 23 years of Chemistry teaching I have never seen such perfect crystals! Well done Year 7.
