Dear Students,
As you are aware John Port will be closed for several weeks. I am confident that you will be the wonderful young people I know you are and for the next few weeks you will support the local community and help where you can. Please keep in contact with your friends and also share the wonderful things you are doing with me (please email your photos and stories to HT@johnport.derbyshire.sch.uk). When you return in the summer we will be celebrating and sharing the things you have done and Community Awards will be presented.
Year 11 and Year 13 students – I know you must feel unsure at the moment but please don’t worry. If you are coming into the Sixth form you will have your place in September. You can spend this time looking at the courses you intend to study and do background reading. If you are in Year 13 we will get further information from the Universities, but you will still go in September. I am also aware that many of you have bought amazing dresses or suits for your Prom. We are planning to have a prom/social event for both current Year 11 and 13 in September or October, so you don’t miss out on these wonderful events.
Year 10 and Year 12 students – please make sure you complete all the work you are sent. If you complete all of this, go online and get an early start on the Year 11 and Year 13 work.
Year 9 – your options are all in place and you can also start looking at the courses you are doing next year and again, background reading will help.
Years 7 and 8 – please complete the work set as this will help you when we return so you do not fall behind.
Everyone is under stress at the moment and many of your families will be struggling. Try to help your families and friends as much as you can.
You could
- Plan and make a family meal
- Look after and entertain younger children for friends and family
- Tidy your bedroom
- Walk the dog, or walk someone else’s dog
- Tidy the house
- Text someone who is a bit down
- Learn a new language
- Complete a jigsaw
- Read a book
There are many ways to keep busy!
I hope you all stay well and I look forward to hearing about the support you have been giving others.
Keep Smiling!
Mrs Squire
