The Student Voice Leadership Team are running a charity event to raise money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). Due to the lockdown that stopped their fundraising, they are currently £1040.81 short of last year’s £5000.00 target.
For those of you who are new to the academy or are unaware of the local importance of CRY, James Murgatroyd (an ex-student of John Port) sadly and suddenly passed away from an undiagnosed cardiac condition. Since his death, his family have been working to raise awareness of hidden cardiac conditions and raise money for CRY and the James Murgatroyd fund. Last year the target of £5000.00 was set to be raised to provide cardiac screening for students which could save a life (or lives) by diagnosing a cardiac condition. We passionately believe in CRY’s work, in the education, prevention and support they provide to so many people and families.
Our challenge for students and family members is to run, walk or ride 5 kilometres and then donate £5 to CRY. Once you have completed your 5 kilometres you can nominate 5 more people to do the same. The challenge will run for the rest of this week and will end on Valentine’s day (14th February) as we felt this was the perfect time to raise money for a charity that has a special place in our hearts.
