Promoting positive behaviour and excellent attendance is the responsibility of the whole school community. The school will promote positive behaviour and good attendance through its use of curriculum and learning materials. Good attendance and behaviour by pupils will be recognised appropriately. All children should be at school, on time, and every day the school is open, unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
Data on school attendance targets and performance is available through the Compare School Performance service here.
A copy of the school Attendance Policy is available here.
John Port Spencer Academy also publishes a regular attendance newsletter. The latest one is available here.
Report an absence (Years 7 – 11)
In the event of your child being absent from school, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by 8:45am stating your child’s name, form group and reason for absence (with symptoms if ill). Please report this on a daily basis unless the length of absence is known. Any child with diarrhoea and/or vomiting symptoms must remain at home until they feel well and have been free of symptoms for 48 hours (the ’48 hour rule’).
For medical appointment notifications, please email the details of the appointment to email@example.com and attach a copy of the appointment card (if you have it). Please include your child’s name and form group in the email.
In the event of your child leaving school during the day without adult supervision, please ensure you email firstname.lastname@example.org prior to the time that they need to leave so that we can instruct reception staff. Without written consent, your child will not be allowed to leave site. Please include your child’s name, form group and reason for leaving early. You must also include the statement that you ‘absolve the academy of all responsibility’ if your child is leaving without a parent/guardian.
For other absences such as holiday, interview, a sporting event, funerals and any other non-medical absence please complete a Leave of Absence for Exceptional Circumstances form.
We are particularly requesting email notification because we are able to save details electronically and reduce paper recording. All information will be forwarded to your child’s Form Tutor and Year Team, eliminating the need for you to duplicate your message.
If you are unable to provide email notification for you child’s absence, then please contact the academy absence team using the absence line telephone number 01283 735181.
