Admissions

John Port Spencer Academy observes the Derbyshire County Council Coordinated Admissions Scheme for Secondary Schools.

The admissions authority for John Port Spencer Academy is The Spencer Academies Trust. The Spencer Academies Trust determines admission arrangements for each academy within the Trust. The arrangements are implemented by the local governing body of each academy including matters relating to local Fair Access arrangements.

The normal area for John Port Spencer Academy admissions includes the parishes as detailed in the Admissions Policies. The normal area is quite large and is easiest viewed using Parish Boundaries via the online Ordinance Survey map here.

Information on applying for a place through the Derbyshire County Council’s Coordinated Admissions Scheme is available here.

The Admissions Policies include detailed information on the applications process; the special consideration given to applications on behalf of children with special education needs and support requirements; and the criteria used when the academy is over-subscribed. Copies of the Admissions Policies are available here:

Parents of children in Year 6 will receive a letter from the Local Authority inviting them to apply for a place at their preferred secondary school in early September. We have 360 places available in Year 7. Places are allocated in accordance with the admissions criteria as detailed in the policies. For 2021/22 Year 7 admissions, all places were allocated and we did reach capacity. We would suggest choosing us as your first preference school if you wish for your child to attend John Port.
